Ayalon Institute - Bullet Factory Rehovot

Adjacent to the Rehovot Science Park, on Givat HaKibbutzim, lies the Ayalon Institute—a site that tells one of the most fascinating and mysterious chapters in the history of the struggle to establish the State of Israel
Here, underground and right under the noses of the British, a factory was established to manufacture 9mm rounds for the Sten submachine gun, the personal weapon of Palmach fighters
The factory is located eight meters underground and covers an area the size of a tennis court
The mission was entrusted to members of the “Tzofim Aleph” group, who were later joined by others, bringing the total number of young men and women involved to 45
The site operated in complete secrecy from 1945 to 1948, producing over four million rounds of ammunition during that period
Site features: An audiovisual presentation, guided tours, a restored dining hall, the “Delegations House,” and various halls and rooms
