,We’re inviting the public to Heritage Week that will run from May 22 – 31, where scores of heritage sites will host a range of activities linked to conservation and preservation
!most of them free of charge
,Heritage Week has been running for over 30 years, and introduces the public to buildings
.characters and stories that make up the rich tapestry of our modern history in Eretz Israel since the 19th century

North

Sunday, 26.5, Haifa – “The founding of the Hejaz Train”: walking tour that traces the origins of the famous train which ran from Damascus to Medina. Free. Details here

Monday, 27.5, Haifa – ‘From the old commercial center to the new’ – walking tour. Free. Details here

Monday 27.5, Beit She’an Museum – Lantern tour in the heart of the old city, between historic buildings, the water tower, the Crusader fortress and the Roman amphitheater.
End off with a traditional Israeli bonfire and songs in the spirit of Lag B’Omer. NIS 30 p/p. Call 052-6070393

Tuesday 28.5, Valley Train Site, Kfar Yehoshuah – Evening of song in the spirit of hope and comfort, led by singers Mika Einav and Yair Stav.  NIS 30 p/p. Evacuees from the North and South – free. Places limited. Details and registration here

Tuesday 28.5, Ein Herod Art Museum – “Secret of the Light” – Special tour guided by Avital Efrat discussing the role of natural light when planning the museum, and the groundbreaking work of architect, Shmuel Bickels. Cost includes entry into the museum (NIS 46/adult). Details and registration here

Wednesday, 29.5, Historic Police Station, Nahalal – “Day of the Guards” – Lectures about historical guards (‘notrim’) in the Land of Israel, and the defense of the towns and villages. Discussions with emergency-response teams of Kibbutz Re’im and Kibbutz Nirim. Free. Pre-registration a must. Call 04-6415073

Thursday, 30.5, Kibbutz Yagur – Story of the Haganah’s hidden weapons cache and the Black Sabbath of 29 June, 1946.  Visit the Hejaz Train watchman’s house, the historical British police station, songs of Yoram Taharlev against the backdrop of the views of Kibbutz Yagur. Thursday, 30.5, Haifa – “In the footsteps of Daher al-Omar” – Guided walking tour in the footsteps of the sheik that played a pivotal role in the building of modern Haifa. Free. Register here

Fridays 24.5 & 31.5, The First Aliyah Museum, Zichron Ya’akov – Guided tour about preservation and heritage along the main founders’ street, and visit to the museum. Price includes tour and entry into museum (NIS 25/adult; NIS 20 child). 052-7300876

Thursday-Friday, 24 – 25.5, “Open House” at Mikveh Israel, Holon. As part of the wider Open House event, there will be three guided tours of the first agricultural school in Israel.

Monday, 27.5, Founders’ Museum, Petah Tikvah. “NostalgiCar” – Nostalgic games, costumes, photo-booth and items from yesteryear.

Lectures on training artists and art teachers in the Negev, small museums in the Negev and more. Art of local artists will be displayed throughout the week. Free.
