Welcome to the Kfar Yehoshua Valley Train Visitor Center
The story of the Valley Train begins during the Ottoman rule over Eretz Israel, long before the establishment of the State of Israel
The Valley Train connected Haifa and Syria
On the map in front of you, you can see that the Valley Train was a branch of the Hejaz Railway that reached Medina in what is now Saudi Arabia
The Ottomans built seven stations along the length of the tracks
The homes that you see around you are the old buildings at one of those stations
The Valley Train continued to operate even after the British conquered Eretz Israel from the Ottomans
Local residents built more towns next to the railroad and added more stations
They used the train to travel from town to town
The train also transported mail and merchandise
?What kind of merchandise, you ask
Fruits and vegetables from the Valley fields to Haifa, the closest big city, tor example
It was only after the State of Israel was established that the Valley Train stopped running, and the residents started using trucks and cars
In 2016, Israel Railways built a new rail line
The new line connects Haifa to Beit Shean
Today, the train runs on the new rail line, very close to the place where the Valley Train once operated
