The Water Tower – The importance of water in determining the station’s location and for steam

It is commonly thought that train stations were located in places with potential passengers, but when the route of the Valley Train was chosen, few people lived outside of the cities and the Zionist settlement enterprise in the Jezreel Valley had not yet begun.

This reason a station was built here was because of the need for water. The train operated on steam, and it was necessary to fill the steam engine’s water tank every 20 to 25 kilometers.

The Kfar Yehoshua Train Station is near the Kishon River, in an area where the ground water is high. Wells were dug near the station and one spring still exists. Water drawn from the well was used to fill the steam engines’ tanks.
