The Visitor Center - About the building

The building, which was erected in 1904, was used as a passenger hall and office for the station clerks – the first on the Hejaz route in the Jezreel Valley.

Although the building is not large, the attention paid to aesthetic details is obvious. The entrance to the building is embellished with a pediment and a double door. The corners are decorated with high-quality chiseled stones and even the openings are emphasized by stylized stones. The roof of the building is covered with the well-known Marseilles shingles, while its underside is hidden from the eye. The basement floor contains a cistern for collecting water. When you enter, you can see the opening of the cistern on the floor.

The building, constructed in the rustic German style, is almost perfectly symmetrical, with one side facing the platform and the other facing the station yard.

In 1907, the passenger hall was moved to the bottom floor of the station manager’s house nearby, and the building where we are standing was used by the station workers. Today, the building displays an exhibit about the Valley Train. In front of the entrance is a platform with two large exhibits: the first, train wheels and the second, a railroad switch, which was used to stop the train when it reached the station You are invited to enter the building and go into the room to the right of the entrance. There, you will meet the Valley Train. Well, if not the original – at least a video of it, played by the site staff.
