The Ayalon Institute Museum: A Secret Underground Bullet Factory
Located near the Rehovot Science Park, on Givat HaKibbutzim, lies the Ayalon Institute Museum. This site tells one of the most fascinating and secretive stories in the history of the struggle to establish the State of Israel, Here, eight meters underground and right under the noses of the British Mandate authorities, a secret factory was built to manufacture 9mm ammunition for the Sten submachine gun—the primary personal weapon of the Palmach fighters. The factory, hidden deep beneath the surface, is roughly the size of a tennis court and remains a powerful testament to the ingenuity and bravery of the pre-state era
During the month of July 2026, the site holds tours on Fridays and Saturdays
