Stories that Bind Us: Memory and Dialogue on October 7 at Heritage Sites
In the wake of October 7, a day that shattered lives and shook our nation, our heritage sites are creating spaces for intimate, human connection — where stories can be heard, hearts can open, and healing can begin on a personal and national level.
Inspired by the “Zikaron BeSalon” (זיכרון בסלון) model, and as part of the SPIHS Resilience Program, we are launching a national effort that reflects the spirit of strength through community: Stories that Bind Us: Memory and Dialogue on October 7 at Heritage Sites
What
We’ve invited Israelis directly affected by October 7 and the war that followed to come and share their stories, and the public is invited to come and bear witness. These gatherings will bring together Israelis from all walks of life to hear the experiences of former hostages and their families, bereaved parents, IDF soldiers, first responders, medical teams and modern-day heroes.
Why
We believe that heritage sites play an important part in telling the story of people and places that shape our history as a nation. But that story is always unfolding, with new chapters being added. October 7 was a new chapter. By inviting people to hear stories within the walls of our heritage sites, we are creating a direct link to our rich history, as well as a cultural hub to keep the story alive.
When
This initiative will take place during the deeply emotional days surrounding Holocaust Remembrance Day and Israel’s Independence Day — a time when we traditionally move from mourning to hope, from remembrance to renewal.
