\The Courtyard was originally built in 1907 by the JCA officer, Haim Margolis-Kalvaryski, to serve the farmers of Metulla who tilled the land of what was then known as Talha In 1918, a group of workers settled in Talha and established a kibbutz, Tel Hai
In the winter of 1919-1920, when attacks on Jewish settlements increased, Joseph Trumpeldor was sent to organize the defense of the north
On 11 Adar (1 March) 1920, Tel Hai was attacked by Arabs. Six of its defenders, including Joseph Trumpeldor, were killed. The others burned the courtyard down and left
In october 1920, the members of Tel Hai returned and rebuilt it. It was because of Tel Hai, Kfar Giladi and Metulla that the Upper Galilee was included in the territory of British Mandate over Palestine
At Tel Hai, the first Zionist Jewish community resisted an attack waged by an organized Arab army. The story of Tel Hai has long symbolized the combination of settlement and defense, serving as a model for youth, settlers and soldiers to this very day
The courtyard was restored in 1960, with the aim of telling its story and preserving the spirit of Tel Hai
Tel Hai 2000, The Society for Preservation of Israel Heritage Sites and the Upper Galille Council have taken the lead in redesigning the site as a center for imparting the heritage of Tel Hai
